What does this new certification mean to you?
It means that when you choose Sundog, you are choosing a company committed to the environment and the future. Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification guarantees that our paper products come from forests that are managed in an environmentally and socially appropriate manner. With strict field assessments and supply chain tracking, paper that meets the standards of the FSC are widely regarded as the most rigorous in the paper and printing industry.

Since 1971 Sundog Printing has been environmentally responsible by integrating the protection and preservation of global resources into our everyday business practices. Our belief always has been that if we focus on the future now, we’ll ensure that the resources we enjoy today are here for generations to come.

Environmental initiatives we have accomplished

Pre-Press:

• 100% of Sundog Printing projects are produced using Computer-To-Plate technology with film being completely eliminated from our work-flow several years ago.

Press Room:

• We have eliminated harmful isopropyl alcohol, a chemical commonly used throughout the printing industry, from our press dampening systems.
• Sundog inventories and uses inks that contain low levels of potentially ozone-damaging petroleum distillates and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), with the majority of our inks being vegetable based.
• All Blanket wash chemistry and ink sludge is collected and sent for proper controlled disposal at a certified disposal plant.

Recycling:

• Sundog is careful to collect and recycle all waste paper generated by our processes. In addition, paper products from our office activities are segregated, collected and introduced into the recycling stream.
• We also recycle all metals.

Purchasing/Production Control:

FSC Certification: late 2005 sees Sundog taking another important step in it’s overall environmental outlook by becoming the first printer in Southern Alberta to gain FSC Certification. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) was founded in 1993 and is an international network to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. In our opinion, FSC is recognized as the most credible forest certification system internationally, making them a logical partner in Sundog’s environmental efforts.
Sundog’s internal procedures and processes were extensively audited in fall of 2005 by SmartWood with the audit concluding in Sundog receiving full FSC Certification.
